Architect's Deck
This roof deck is our principal Selim Vural's deck he has built for his family on top of his Brooklyn apartment in 2006. Selim grows vegetables and flowers on this deck and develops many of his biophilic-architecture, urban farming and green architectural ideas by hands on experience in gardening.
The deck lands gently on the old roof through a metal structure bolted to the party walls which is clad with teak and cedar planks. Through the consultation of a structural engineer, the loads are transferred to party walls with no burden on the existing structure. The deck is Department of Buildings and sponsor approved.
