Gut renovation of a historic townhouse

Park Slope Townhouse
This historic townhouse in Park Slope had been stripped of original details and chopped up into a warren of rooms by a previous owner. The client was a single-family buyer and wanted to create an in-law suite at the garden level, where the parlor and second floor became the main residence.
Our spatial strategy for the parlor floor was to create an open plan where spaces seamlessly flowed into one another with a fine balance of open and private. A structurally unsound backyard deck was replaced by a steel deck with warm bamboo planks. The kitchen and powder room were designed with premium finishes that had a fine blend of contemporary and Park Slope grandeur.

Our curated visits to New York’s finest stone yards and specialty wood suppliers resulted in a harmonious
selection of materials that define the project’s character. The centerpiece is a rare Calacatta Gold marble, celebrated for its warm amber veining—a timeless stone slab used in select homes since Ancient Greece- secured at exceptional value for our client. Complementing this, we sourced hand-selected oak veneer sheets from our trusted Bronx supplier, ensuring consistency and refinement throughout.
To achieve uncompromising craftsmanship, our master carpenter employed a precision steam-press technique, allowing the veneers to reveal their full grain depth and natural beauty. The outcome is a contemporary residence, meticulously tailored to our client’s vision, distinguished by exacting detail and artistic integrity.
